The last census (2012) carried out by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) registers a population of 10.290.003 inhabitants (approximately) and a masculinity index of 99,67%

In the last fifty years, the Bolivian population has tripled, reaching an annual growth rate of 2,25%.

64% of Bolivians live in urban areas and the remaining 36% in rural areas. Most of the country’s population is concentrated in the departments of Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, and La Paz, which bring together more than 70% of the Bolivian population.

The population density is 8.49 h / km2, with variations between 0.8 in the department of Pando and 26.2 in the department of Cochabamba. The highest concentration of population occurs in the so-called “central axis” of the country and in the area of the plains.

Bolivia is characterized by having a young population.
